HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation trains you how and when to handle with cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is a life-threatening medical emergency and just taking the course you can be a life saver. This course is suitable for all workers who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, include community and workplace settings.

This course outlines the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Entry requirements

There is no pre-requisite entry requirements for a client to enrol in this course.

  • Students must have the physical ability to kneel and perform CPR on the floor uninterrupted for at least two minutes.
  • A valid Unique Student Identifier (USI). We recommend that you create your USI before you book your course.

Course Duration

HLTAID009- Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation is delivered over one training day, with pre-reading and written assessment in a single session of approximately 4 – 4.5 hours.

  • Theory: 2 hours
  • Simulated lab practice: 2-2.5 hours (demonstration of CPR)

The validity of the course is for a year after course completion.

Course delivery

This course will be delivered using a face to face contact between trainer and student methodology. The delivery strategy used in this methodology is a combination of pre-self-study and direct contact between student and trainer.

Course Assessment

Compression and ventilation skills must be demonstrated on resuscitation manikins following ARC guidelines for the purpose of assessment of CPR procedures.

You will be tested on simulated assessment environments simulating real-life situations. Your skills and knowledge would be evaluated based on the performance, with all the relevant equipment and resources provided to you.
