Based on a report from the Australian Institute of Healthcare and Welfare, more than 1.2 million people received aged care services during 2017–18, with most (77%) receiving support in their home or other community-based settings. More than 3,000 aged care providers in Australia deliver care through nearly 9,000 services. In 2016, more than 366,000 aged care workers operated across the residential and community settings, including 240,000 direct care workers.
Similarly, over 4.4 million people in Australia have some form of disability. That is 1 in 5 people. Of all people with disabilities, 1.9 million are aged 65 and over, representing almost half (44.5%) of all people with disabilities.
The statistics show the need for aged care workers. Studying aged care courses helps grab the growing opportunities in the health care industry.
